Persons with hypomanic symptoms may experience an euphoric elevated mood, or be irritable and frustrated for more than 4 days which is markedly different than their typical depressed mood. During this period of time, a person also experiences several of the following: 1) feelings of grandiosity and high level of self-esteem; 2) completed rested on just a few hours of sleep; 3) be highly talkative or feel compelled to talk; 4) unable to focus and easily distracted; 5) hyperfocused on acting on perceived goals; 6) overly involved in situations that may result in negative consequences (spending money one doesn't have).

People other than the person experiencing hypomania notice a change in the persons behavior as it may be atypical to their normal funcitoning.

Like all other mental health conditions, a competent clinician can help sort out the symptoms and determinie if you or someone you care about is being influenced by this condition and what treatment is available.
