Energetically and mindfully following the breath from inhale to exhale in a circular pattern is known as circle breathing. While breathing is a natural process, learning to circle breath can take some time and practice. Once mastery is acheived though, this technique may be utilized to reduce stress and anxiety.
STEP ONE: Take a deep breathe while raising your arms high above your head. As you exhale, let out a big sigh.
STEP TWO: As you continue to take your next breath, visualize yourself taking in positive calming energy into your abdomen just below your navel.
STEP THREE: Imagine the warm air traveling from this spot below your navel into the base of your spinal column. Allow it to travel up towards the base of your skull.
STEP FOUR: With your next exhale, picture your breath returning once again to the area near your abdomen. Again, take a deep cleansing breath starting below your navel and allow it to once again travel up your spine towards the base of your neck. Your breathing has now traveled full circle returning back to the navel.
STEP FIVE: This breathing circle can be continued for up to 10 breaths, or longer.
