Our Services Massage Therapy Natural Treatments Holistic Therapies Leave No Child Inside: Confronting Nature Deficit Disorder

This generation may be the first to experience a lower life expectancy than older Americans due to a relatively new phenomenon known as "Nature Deficit Disorder." Richard Louv coined the term after conducting a decade of studies which examined the consequences of spending increasingly more time indoors. In 2006, he published his ground breaking book, "Last Child in the Woods," which recently won him the 2008 Audobon medal. Concerns about the long-term consequences on children's physical and emotional well-being have spawned a national movement to "leave no child inside."

Louv notes that connecting to nature is an anecdote to depression, boosts cognitive development, and generates happier healthier people. Like minded individuals all across the country are now confronting the negative outcomes associated with nature deficit disorder.

In 2004, Heavensfield's founder Cosette Dawna Rae, built her entire practice  on the premise that "connecting people with nature is the foundation for greater health and wellness." Located in rural Fall City, Washington, Heavensfield's five acre healing center encourages daily interaction with the natural world. Clients young and old who find their way to Heaven's field enjoy a leisurely walk through a labyrinth of trails leading to the outdoor office space. Once inside, clients are surrounding by the natural world which is displayed through 9 panels of floor to ceiling glass walls. Long before stumbling upon Louv's vision, Cosette discovered that being present with nature soothed clients, and naturally reduced stress and anxiety.

"Running through the empty field nearby our home, climbing trees, and chasing summer butterflies helped me cope with the stress and heartaches associated with childhood." --Cosette
Cosette's holistic approach to mind body healing can be felt throughout the entire design of Heaven's Field. Her one of a kind treesort center offers clients a unique blend of relaxation therapy offered in a natural living environment.

Children coming to Cosette for counseling enjoy the process of playing, running, gardening and experiencing nature while addressing the trauma's that bring them to her field of expertise.
