Our Services Life Coaching Life Skills Training

As part of my coaching practice I work with adults and teens interested in acquiring and mastering a variety of life skills. These include:

  • Determining what you want out of life -- What is your personal mission?
  • Examining your choices -- How do these choices help you achieve your goals and dreams?
  • Getting clear on what you value and cherish -- What values bring you the greatest happiness?
  • Growing from mistakes and taking that couragous next step -- What will you do now to create daily joy?

Concepts drawn from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) by Marsha Linehan also include:

Practicing Mindfulness: Learning how to differentiate nuances between our emotional, reasonable and wise state of mind. Noticing and observing the world without judgement. Learning how to describe and put words to experiences. Focusing on what works in a given situation.

Interpersonal Effectiveness: Fostering, developing and recognizing healthy relationships. Developing self-respect for self and others. Learning to balance those things you want to do versus those things you should do. Challenging yourself, asking for what you need. Negotiating with others for what you want. Increasing personal effectiveness. Setting goals and priorities. Honoring your own values.

Regulating Emotions: Learning how to identify, describe, and understand both positive and negative emotions. How to engage in taking the opposite action in given situations, especially those that create fear and anxiety.

Crisis Survival Techniques: How to manage through a crisis. Developing a toolkit to use during crisis situations. Developing distress tolerance skills and mastering acceptance. Finding and engaging in what is needed; being willing to give up what isn't working. Improving the moment, taking care of yourself and finding ways to reduce chaos.
